A new report by the Norwegian Labour Inspectorate and STAMI shows that workers under 25 are the most affected in the construction sector. In 2024, 3,902 work-related injuries will be recorded in the sector, and the youngest workers are more likely to be injured than their older colleagues.
This is one of the highest numbers in the last decade. Only in 2021 were there more fatalities in 10 years.More seriously, 6 work-related deaths have already been recorded at the beginning of 2026.
Working outdoors in winter poses additional health and safety challenges for workers. The cold affects not only well-being, but also job performance, reaction and the risk of accidents. The employer must assess the situation and ensure that work is organised safely even in difficult weather conditions.
Employers are subject to stricter safety and work organisation requirements when employing workers under the age of 18 than when working with adults. This is particularly true for jobs involving tools, equipment or increased safety risks.
As of 21 December 2025, updated requirements for working with asbestos came into force, clarifying employers' obligations and providing stricter protection for workers from dangerous asbestos fibres.
The Norwegian Labour Inspectorate (Arbeidstilsynet) informs that as of 1 January 2026, amendments to the Working Environment Act (Arbeidsmiljøloven) have entered into force, clarifying employers' responsibility for the psychosocial working environment.
